Yellow Rose Corral Hour

With a subject title like that, I almost think Howdy Doody should be hosting LOL. But if you think the Yellow Rose is anything like the old black and white cowboy movies, you are going to be ecstatically surprised to find the hunky men in Stetsons that we’ve corralled into this line. The one thing we have kept is the heart of the cowboy tradition—strong men fighting for what they love—their lands, their families…and their women!

For readers, why not give yourself a birthday gift today and try out one of our books. Like all the lines, we’ve got everything from short to full length, from romantic comedy to heart-clenching action to heart-wrenching emotion. Everything a romance reader loves!

For writers, we’re open for submissions of any length and would love to hear from you. Never hesitate to drop me a note if you have any questions about the Yellow Rose line—I love talking about writing and especially cowboys! My email is always open at stacy@thewildrosepress.com.

You may just be surprised at what today’s contemporary cowboys have to offer so for this party, I’d love to hear what you think makes a cowboy. Come on, take a roll in the hay for an hour and tell me what you like about these hunky, Stetson wearing heroes.

I'll start and let you know the thing I LOVE about cowboys. Sure, the gym is great and there are a lot of muscled bound men there, but with a cowboy, you know those hard abs and those strong, firm, oh so delicious biceps are 100% home-made with hard work around the ranches. Mmmm, mmm, mmm.

The rough hands, tight but, the defined abs from all the lifting of hay bales and the biceps. YUMMY!!!! If I hadn't married one I would divorce him and go find a cowboy. Fortunatly as a ranch girl born and bred, cowblys have never been in short supply in my life :)

Well, gee, what DON'T I love about cowboys? There's something so classic about a cowboy hero. To tell you the truth, I can't put my finger on it. But I will say that a pair of well-fittin Wranglers does the cowboy butt - *ahem* - body good ;)

The unshaven rugged look does it for me too! Thank goodness hubby humors me and lets his face get scruffy!

I grew up in "cowboy country". There's just something about the way a cowboy walks, talks, and...uhm...yeah.

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

LOL Ann! I married my cowboy too!

Ah yes, how could I have forgotten the Wranglers LOL--and the hands! Must be all that work that makes them so big LOL

in my opinion what i think makes a cowboy is his stubborn and strong willed attitude. :)

Happy Birthday yellow roses.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for my husband) cowboys are in short supply in the UK - except that we do have a thriving Western riding community oh, and there's something about a guy in a stetson and tight jeans on top of a horse! I did meet a real live cowboy while crewing for the British Endurance team in France. He owned a large ranch in California, rode like part of the horse and had a great sense of humour and lovely manners. *Sigh* what more could one want?

Christine said...

Sun kissed skin, a quick smile, wit and humor. Jeans worn and faded, flannel shirt with only the last three buttons done, muscular hard chest, powerful thighs and boots.

And I have to say, Stacy is great editor... she has helped get my cowboy from fantasy to print...

My cowboy was a rodeo man when we met. I went to a lot of his rides but after our son turned 3 we decided it was time to hang up the chaps and bull rope........except on special occasions that is hehehe

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Ah yes, the accent! And the manners--those boys are raised well!

But remember, now that we're talking about the drawls, not all cowboys come from Texas etc. I know for a fact we've got some great Canadian cowboys up here, then there are the rugged Alaskan cowboys too. You know, the list could go on and on and deliciously on....

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Stubborn, good word--must be that feminine part in us that just wants to tame the bronc in them.

*blush* Thanks Christine!

How did he feel about that Ann--great research LOL--giving up the traveling life and the quick thrill--okay not all of it and in essence, he just exchanged it for the rodeo of parenthood LOL

Me :) said...

give me a pitcher of tea, a shady tree and hubby shirtless doing yard work........HAPPY WOMAN

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

ROFL!!! Don't blame you a bit Ann! Sounds perfect!

Me :) said...

A lot of it was his choice. Rodeo is a rough life. our son is autistic, I worked all the time and lets face it.....Hubby wasn't getting any younger....After a few "wrecks" he decided he wanted to be able to watch his kids grow up and spend time with us instead of the rank pens and buckle bunnies. There are times when he misses it, the same as I miss training race horses sometimes, but I wouldn't trade the life we have now for anything

There's just something about men who spend their days on horseback. I see y'all know a thing or two about horses, so you understand. A proper cowboy knows care and control. Well, and everyone's mentioned the body honed by honest labor...

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Very cool Ann

Masha--you hit on a VERY good point! Cowboys know how to take care of the animals, and well. They have a sensitive side, not feminine, but understanding towards their horses and other livestock that then translates over to humans--especially their women. The heroines instinctively know they will be taken care of---oooohhhh and doesn't that cause some major conflict for the woman falling in love with a cowboy but not wanting to be independent!

After reading a line like that, it's amazing I can even think! A'hem... trying to get my head out of the gutter now so I can post something constructve. haha

There's just something 'special' about a guy in cowboy boots. :) My husband was wearing them, jeans, and a black stetson the night we met. For us gals who dream of cowboys, but live far, far away from ranches, country line dancing was this girl's next best thing. Fourteen years of marriage behind us, but I still love to two-step with my cowboy. Yee-haw! :)

Happy B-Day WRP!

I'm not as wild about cowboys but I did enjoy the Wayback, TX stories. I was sorry to hear you will be closing the series down later this year.

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

LOL Tess. When I met my husband, he was in a shirt and tie and I almost didn't go on the first date with him. On our second date, he shows up in black shirt, black jeans, black cowboy boots and in a BIG truck...I was in love from that moment on LOL

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Yes, Beth. But only for submissions. The line will still stay with the great stories AND there are a good number of new ones that will still be coming out. I can highly recommend, Finding Their Way Back, a brand new anthology with three NEW stories. I think it's coming out in June--Yellow Rose Month at the webside--but I don't have the official release day yet.

Wow, great comments! I've always loved the idea of cowboys. I remember some years back I and several girlfriends went dancing in Dallas. Oh my....all of those tight Wranglers, boots and Stetsons! And the majority of them were so polite, showing us how to do the Texas two-step.

Kelly McCrady said...

Cowboys are sexy in a primal way. They are tied to the land; their strength is honestly gained by hard work. Patience and empathy are ingrained from working with large animals. And as others have mentioned, Wranglers show off that form oh so well...A cowboy won't put up with a horse that plays games, why should he accept it from a woman? I like how cowboys demand respectful behavior without saying a word...

Tess Thieler said...

Stacy, that's SO cool... and it's nice to meet you. :) My guy had a BIG navy blue pick-up truck too. lol He may not have worked on a ranch, but he did hard labor and it showed. His buddies at work used to comment that he bench-pressed Buicks for fun. haha

I'm a new author here at TWRP and my first short story has a release date on Sept. 2nd. It's in the Crimson Rose line, but I can see me penning something to submit for the Yellow Rose line someday. :) The name of this line always draws me in because I love yellow roses.. and I was born in Texas. I might have grown up in Pennsylvania, but that old saying holds true for me - "You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can never take Texas out of the girl." I'm VERY different from my PA born younger sisters. I'm the only one who has several pairs of cowboy boots in my closet lol.

I just took another peek at the cowboy picture you posted, Stacy. That just about says it all! lol

Wow, Kelly, well put!!

Happy Birthday Yellow Roses! BTW--that's my favorite rose! I've loved cowboys since the nighttime soap opera Dallas. Gotta love a man in a Stetson with a snug par of Wranglers and a slow sexy drawl! I'm proud to be a part of this garden. All the best.

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Tess, awesome, congratulations and I'm always open when you've got that story done!

*Waves to Sandy* Funny, but you don't have to look too hard on the internet for some great cowboy inspirations LOL

I think of cowboys as being hard workers, reliable, honorable, full of integrity and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Well earned muscles don't hurt either! :)

Has anyone been watching Dancing With the Stars? Rodeo champion, Ty Murray, may not be the best dancer, but did you see his arms? No wonder he can tame those bulls! lol

Gotta go pick my daughter up from the hospital. She had minor surgery today. Talk to you all later!

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

It's so great to see all of you here and thank you so much for dropping by!

Again, I want to remind any authors that the Yellow Rose is always seeking submission.

And for readers....what would you like to see from our line--what kind of cowboys? What kind of heroines? We want to know your thoughts so we can get you what you want to read!

Lynda Lukow said...

Cowboys... Yum! They offer more than the fit physique. Their appeal lies in their attitudes---like fleece-lined rawhide gloves (tough outside, warm inside).

Best wishes,
Lynda

No discussion of our love for cowboys can be complete without country western singers. First, for the LOOK. (Kenny Chesney, a young Kenny Rogers, Vince Gill -- and so many more.) Second, for the words. Who doesn't laugh her ass off at Brad Paisley's "I'm Still a Guy"? And who doesn't melt at "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "You Decorated My Life"?

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Hope she's doing okay, Sandy!

Yep, if I had to pick it would be between the eyes and the arms...and it would be a VERY close decision. I've always been an arm/shoulder girl but the eyes say it all and smiling ones are my favorite LOL

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

You are so right Lynette (who I might add won the eppie for her Yellow Rose book, Love with a Welcome Stranger--awesome Lynette) but those singing cowboys are, again, no longer your mama's crooning cowboys nosireee!

I know some are coming up in a couple yellow rose books--one is the Anthology I mentioned earlier--look for One Starlit night in that anthology--and the other is from Roni Adams's 'Double B' series. I believe that edition is coming out next year (can't wait!!)

Stacy D. Holmes, Editor said...

Unfortunately, I need to get back to work :( but I've had a great lunch hour and do plan to sneek back in over the course of the afternoon so any questions or comments...keep them coming!!

Now I know why I have always wanted a cowboy. Are we allowed to trade?

Anne Carrole said...

What I love about a cowboy? I think it's that tension between being strong-willed, hard-headed, taking command and the fact he is also generous, protective and tender. And then they look so yummy having been fed on all that protein and fresh air. Tall, muscular and lanky I just love watching a cowboy in motion!

Unknown said...

Yummy love cowboys!

I went to my first rodeo last weekend as research for my submission to the Wayback series and was upset to find those cowboys weren't as hot as the ones in romance novels ) - ;
Ah, well. I still had a blast. LOL! I like cowboys because of the whole "tall, dark and sexy", strong, well-mannered, southern charmer, defender, brave, sexy, rooted to the land, hard-working stereotype. Wish I could meet me one of those cowboys. I'll just have to settle for reading and writing about them.

Happy Birthday Roses!!

I love cowboys, they're the all-Americn hero from way back when... and from Wayback series!

A man in tight jeans and boots..what's not to like
